What we have been led to believe:

This account from Ben Medrano in "the Kusung Letter" has been widely shared and quoted as evidence of apparent greed on the part of the Sakyong.

Another perspective:

The following account is from first-hand witness testimony well known to many people on the Shambhala Network.

While the Sakyong was travelling in Asia, a member of his party came up with the idea of leasing a car rather than continuing to rent cars, not as an extravagance but as a means of saving Shambhala money.

The choice of the make and model of car was not made by the Sakyong.

Other witnesses have confirmed this version of events and that the Sakyong was angry because he had repeatedly instructed that the lease be secured as he was concerned about expenditures.

When asked something like "What do you want me to do?" again, the Sakyong's response, according to these witnesses, was one of frustration because of these delays.
